Trying to host in Germany and want a smooth, low ping session for your friends? In this guide you will learn a simple setup using SquidServers, how to pick the right settings, and how to improve routing so your group gets better ping.

Create your server with SquidServers

Install SquidServers for your operating system and open it. If your OS prompts you on first run, allow the app to open. Make sure Java is installed. Java 21 is a good default unless your mods say otherwise.

Choose your server type. Select Vanilla for a clean start, Paper for plugins, or Modpack if you plan to run a pack. Create a new world or import one you already have. Pick a save location you recognise and set Memory Allocation with the slider.

Review your settings and click Launch Server. SquidServers shows a join link. Share that link with your friends. You can play and host on the same computer.

Pick sensible performance settings

Start with a simple RAM plan and adjust after a short play test.

• 1 to 5 players on vanilla: 2 to 3 GB
• 6 to 10 players on vanilla: 4 GB
• Modpacks: add 2 to 4 GB

Close heavy background apps on your machine while hosting. If the world feels busy, lower view and simulation distance to reduce per tick work on the CPU.

Lower your ping in Germany

By default, SquidServers creates a guest tunnel that routes through North America. If your players are mostly in Germany, that default may be fine or it may add ping if you are far away.

If you want a closer route, open the SquidServers dashboard, select Manage Tunnels, click the computer icon in the top right, and set up a premium routing region near your players. This lets connections enter the network closer to your group. You can also test expected ping at ping.playit.gg to compare regions before you decide.

Test with your group

Ask two or three friends in Germany to join for a short session. Check flying, combat and teleporting. If ping is high, switch to a closer routing region and test again. Keep changes small and test one thing at a time so you know what helped.
